Being educated both in China and the UK, I joined the commercial world in late 80s’ and worked in South China, Hong Kong, Brazil, Indonesia and multinational companies in the UK. As a professionally trained teacher, my passion in education took me back to the educational field and I have been running my own educational consultancy company since 1996. My international experience equipped me with in-depth appreciation and knowledge of the importance of ‘being an international person’. With this understanding, I am lucky enough to team up with colleagues sharing the same vision to set up Nihao Mandarin Language School. I sincerely hope you and your child will enjoy the time you spend with us.

I’ve been enjoying my teaching job and building up a lot of teaching experience since I graduated from university 13 years ago in China. I’m interested in educational psychology and keep updating my teaching skills. I always prepare my lessons well and try to make each of them attractive and interesting for all my students, using different learning materials and methods such as poems, songs, riddles, twisters and various hand-made cards. In my classes, children really enjoy practicing Mandarin and putting their hands up actively to answer questions all the time. Also they are being encouraged to work out how to memorize Chinese characters in their own ways, which is thought the hardest part in learning Mandarin. Now I teach in Nihao Mandarin Language School and after school clubs in some grammar schools.

Spending time with kids in my classes is such great fun. Their inquisitive eyes, cute talking and responsive participation are constant incentives for my efforts in planning lessons. I really appreciate and enjoy the Saturday morning’s mandarin teaching time. I received two bachelor degrees and a teaching qualification (higher education) in Shanghai and spent six years in teaching there. I was also lucky enough to have been given training on teaching methodology by leading experts from England in early 1997. My career in teaching benefited a lot from this precious experience. Five years ago I came to England to study and was rewarded an LLM degree (Master of Law) one year later. I am now working full time in Student Service Department in a private six form college.

Having grown up in China, Chinese culture is deep inside my blood. I am happy to share my experience and knowledge with people and let them get to know more about China.

As an actuarial student, although teaching is a part-time job, I am passionate about it. In the future I may become an actuary; however, I will get an enormous amount of pleasure from helping others to appreciate my own language and the culture it has to offer.

During my time in China, I toured across many parts of the country, worked as a host presenter on stage for professional concerts and variety performances, for many years. I also acted different characters at theatres, as well as in TV dramas.

I love children, enjoy chatting to them, spending time with them and seeing them happy and joyful. I believe every child has a potential and I feel privileged to be offered this opportunity to extend my knowledge of Chinese culture and language to our next hopeful generations.

I truly hope children in my class are able to learn, understand and absorb their knowledge of standard Chinese language with confidence, courage, and enthusiasm.
